چکیده

The term Complex Regional Pain Syndrome (CRPS) is a pain disorder in which the pain is disproportionate to the initial inciting injury. The disorder is complex because it involves multiple organ systems with abnormal blood flow, sweating abnormalities, trophic changes, and fine motor impairment. The pain distribution tends to be regional (not dermatomal), and is not limited to the area initially affected (Rand 2009). The pathophysiology of CRPS is not entirely understood. The pain can be sympatheticallymaintained (responsive to sympathetic interventions) or sympatheticindependent (Gibbs et al. 2008; Wilson 1999). The diagnosis is excluded by the presence of a condition that would otherwise account for the degree of pain and dysfunction. According to the International Association for the Study of Pain (IASP), CRPS is divided into two categories based on the absence of a recognizable nerve injury (CRPS type I, formerly known as reflex sympathetic dystrophy) or the presence of a proximal nerve injury (complex regional pain syndrome type II, formerly known as causalgia) (Bruehl et al. 1999). It is often seen in teenage girls and has a greater predeliction for the lower extremity in children when compared to adults (Wilder et al. 1992). Unlike the adult population where there is workman’s compensation etc., the main red flag in children is school absenteeism.

Establishing a relationship between bacteria in the human gut and complex regional pain syndrome.

Complex Regional Pain Syndrome (CRPS) is a serious and painful condition involving the peripheral and central nervous systems. Full comprehension of the disorder's pathophysiology remains incomplete, but research implicates the immune system as a contributor to chronic pain. Because of the impact gastrointestinal bacteria have in the development and behavior of the immune system, this study com...

Investigating Reports of Complex Regional Pain Syndrome: An Analysis of HPV-16/18-Adjuvanted Vaccine Post-Licensure Data

Complex regional pain syndrome (CRPS) is a chronic pain disorder that typically follows trauma or surgery. Suspected CRPS reported after vaccination with human papillomavirus (HPV) vaccines led to temporary suspension of proactive recommendation of HPV vaccination in Japan. We investigated the potential CRPS signal in relation to HPV-16/18-adjuvanted vaccine (Cervarix®) by database review of CR...

Spontaneous recurrent episodes of wrist pain in a 16-year-old girl: a case of complex regional pain syndrome

Introduction: Complex regional pain syndromes (CRPS) are disabling pain syndromes that can develop after minor tissue injury or trauma and are characterized by sensory, motor, and autonomic abnormalities distributed in a glove-like or stocking-like manner. Complex regional pain syndrome is well known in adults, but is relatively rare in children. Most of the reported cases of CRPS in children a...
